Deden Iman Wauntara was born in Bandung on 31 Januari 1987. Started to know photography in 2005 when he was still in a senior high school, and started to study it more seriously when he was a student at a communication department in Universitas Komputer Indonesia in 2006. He entered a photojournalistic world during an internship at Seputar Indonesia (Sindo) daily West Java in 2010, and then continued to work there until 2012.
In a 2012-2013 period, he worked as a freelance photographer for Greenpeace in documenting Citarum River and some rivers in Banten Province. After that he moved to Bandung based Pikiran Rakyat daily and has worked there until now.
Some awards in photography he has received are, among others, a runner up in a 2008 MDGs Photo contest, Best Human Interest in Best Collection PAF Photo contest, an award from Salon Foto Indonesia, a runner up in a 2011 West Java-Banten Labor Force Photo contest, a runner up at Anlene Photo Journalistic Award, a fourth position in Karst Citatah Photo Contest, the first prize in NBL Series Photo Contest in Bandung, the winner of Banten Province Photo Contest. Moreover, he also took part in some photo exhibitions and book publications.
