Dwianto Wibowo taught himself photography while still a student at Trisakti University in 2005. He studied photo journalism during his two-month internship at Tempo News Room (TNR) in early 2009 before moving on to be a freelance photographer.

In 2011, Dwianto was elected first prize winner of a photo essay contest by Indonesia Photo Journalist Award 2010 for his work titled “Waiting in Vain at the Transjakarta Stop”. His work was also published in the Mt. Merapi 10, Summit of Fire book together with 44 other photo journalists from a multitude of national and overseas media.

Dwianto frequently participated in exhibitions, such as: Jakarta International Photo Summit 2010 City of Interaction at Galeri Nasional, Indonesian Photo Journalist Award 2010, Transit-O at “Pesta Media” Independent Journalistic Alliance at Galeri Nasional, Jakarta (November 2012).
