Born in 27 May 1989 in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Herka learnt photography in FISIP Fotografi Club when he was a student majoring in communication at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Solo (2007-2012) before becoming an intern photojournalist in Surabaya based Jawa Pos and Jakarta based Antara News Agency (2010).

Upon completing his internship, he worked as a photojournalist in Antara News Agency; covering sports, arts and culture, economy and education in Solo and its surrounding areas (2010-September 2013).

He currently works as a photographer in Bola Sports Weekly/Daily.
