Imam learned photography autodidacticaly through books before learning it further from his seniors. His passion for mountaineering and natural scenery led him to photography. He once worked with Rakyat Merdeka daily and other online media. He has joined merdeka.com since 2012. In addition to Citilink Award, he has won some awards during the 40th PWI Jaya Anugrah Foto Thamrin of 2013-2014, JICT-PFIJ 2015 Photojournalism Contest and Thamrin Photo Contest 2016.
