Rakhmawaty La’lang was born in Serang in 1989. She graduated from the faculty of social and political sciences of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS ) in Makassar in 2012.
Her friend introduced her to photography world when she was in a senior high school, and then she started to seriously learn about photography when she was a university student by joining one of the UNHAS student activity clubs as well as a number of photography clubs in Makassar.
Her experience in journalism started when she did her internship program as a reporter in the Makassar bureau of Antara News Agency. She realizes that journalism is not only about witnessing and recording a certain event, but it is also about to be a part of the event itself.
Later on she decided to study more about photojournalism and has worked with Republika as photographer since 2012.
Among exhibitions she took part are photo exhibition titled “Jakarta hopes” and “One year performance of the MRT” (2014, held by Pewarta Foto Indonesia Jakarta/Indonesian Photojournalist, Jakarta), and “One year period of Jokowi-JK’s work” (2015).
