Sumaryanto Bronto began his career during his studies at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta when he worked as a contributor for Associated Press. In 2007 he was selected to attend a photo journalistic workshop by PannaFoto Institute in Jakarta with the support of the World Press Photo. He is currently a photographer at Media Indonesia daily.

He received several awards, among others are Anugerah Adiwarta’s Best Photo in the Law and Arts category (2011), Indonesia Photo Journalist Awards in the Law category (2010) and John Hopkins Annual International Photo Contest in the Democracy and Governance category (2007).
