PermataBank is committed to organize Permata Photojournalist Grant 2020 in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic. We believe in the spirit of Indonesian photojournalists in Indonesia to develop themselves and their storytelling skills amid the tough situation.
To respond to the current situation and condition, Permata Photojournalist Grant (PPG) takes up the theme of “Hope”. In line with health and safety concerns, the program, which is in its tenth year, runs on virtual platforms. We hope that by running the program virtually, we could overcome geographical boundaries – something that has been a concern for us – and reach out to more photojournalists and freelance photojournalists across Indonesia. The selected photojournalists, both who work full time for a media title and ones who work freelance, receive photography workshops and grant to complete their photo story projects.
The training started on 8 December 2020 to 5 February 2021, divided into 15 sessions twice weekly. The main focus of the workshop was photo story and writing, guided by the mentors from PannaFoto Institute (Edy Purnomo, Rosa Panggabean, and Yoppy Pieter), Croatia (Saša Kralj), the Netherlands (Jenny Smets) and a professional practitioner (Budi Setiyono). The workshop results are presented to the public through a virtual photo exhibition and a photo book titled “Hope”.
